Custom Orthotic Inserts
We prescribe custom-made orthotic inserts (also called custom foot orthotics) that are designed specifically for your feet. Unlike off‑the‑shelf insoles, custom orthotics are manufactured from clinical measurements and are intended to support foot function, improve comfort, and help your body load more efficiently during standing, walking, and sport.
What custom orthotics are designed to do
Custom orthotic inserts are commonly prescribed to:
Support the arch and midfoot to improve stability through the stance phase of gait
Guide how the foot strikes and loads to help reduce excessive stress on tissues
Improve alignment and movement efficiency through the foot, ankle, and lower limb
Provide cushioning and impact absorption where additional protection is needed
The goal is not simply “extra padding,” but a clinically selected blend of support, control, and comfort based on how you move and what your body needs.
Who they may be suitable for
Custom orthotics may be considered if you are experiencing ongoing or recurring issues such as:
heel or arch discomfort
ankle, knee, hip, or lower‑back strain linked to foot mechanics
fatigue with prolonged standing or walking
foot instability, excessive pronation/supination, or uneven wear patterns
discomfort that persists despite changing shoes or using standard insoles
They are also commonly prescribed for people who need reliable support for work, everyday activity, or sport, especially where footwear type and activity level influence symptoms.
How we prescribe them
Prescription begins with a clinical assessment called a Bio Mechanical appointment, which may include:
a review of your symptoms, medical history, and daily demands
examination of foot posture, joint mobility, and muscle function
observation of walking (and where appropriate, gait analysis)
From this, we determine the most suitable orthotic design and the best way to match it to your footwear and lifestyle.
What to expect after fitting
Most people require a short adjustment period as the body adapts to new support. We will guide you on:
a gradual “wear‑in” schedule
footwear recommendations to optimise fit and function
follow‑up if any fine‑tuning is needed for comfort or performance
Important note
Custom orthotics are a prescribed medical device and are selected individually. Results vary by person and depend on factors such as footwear, activity, underlying conditions, and consistency of use.
If you would like to discuss whether orthotic inserts are appropriate for you, contact us to arrange an assessment.
To obtain Orthotics you must attend a Bio Mechanical Examination appointment for the examination and issue of a prescription.
